Boxing Ring,

I was recently asked to help with a project which isn't my typical line of work. I've painted rooms, houses, fences and gates. But, this was the first time I was asked if I could paint the mat to a boxing ring. A sponsors name had been painted on the mat at one time but had since become quite worn.

I decided to free hand it, as it would be difficult to get accurate masking to stick to this canvas, if possible at all. So using an interior acrylic latex paint and a 2 inch purdy, natural hair paint brush I restored the lettering as best i could.

I also painted sponsors names on the corner pads. The mat and pads were to be used in a professional boxing match, March 22, 2012. Bad news is, I don't think I can make it to the match. Good news is, my work will be on television.

DIYtip #0001

"When painting many surfaces, regardless of the paint you are using, it is very important to clean the surface well. Oils and dirt, even if not visible, can cause poor adhesion and shorten the life of your paint job. This is especially true when painting over a glossy surface. (note: Most matte or satin walls don't need much preparation.)

I recommend a quick drying household degreaser. "fantastik" or similar. If you have laquer thiner on hand that will work as well but it can be harsh on sensitive skin so wear gloves. In addition, if the surface is glossy, it is best to lightly sand it with a medium grit sand paper or sanding block. The small scratches this creates wont show through the new paint, but will help the two materials to bond together.
And finally.

When in doubt, "Kilz"! Sold at most stores that carry home improvement supplies,(IE Bering's, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) this product is excellent for bonding two paints together."

Antique Style Mission Table

While working in the house of a good customer, A friend and I, saw a 300 year old mission table that had been recovered from a monastery. We were inspired to build our own mission table using the same principles.

The heavy top is grooved to sit on top of the pedestal legs, the trestle is held in place with two square pegs. The entire table comes apart into four pieces when the pegs are removed. Built completely from lumber salvaged from a demolition site, this piece is naturally distressed and worn for a rustic authentic look.

Computer Desk

This Computer desk was inspired by the space economy and simplicity of loft and small apartment furniture. Constructed of select pine with a keyboard and mouse ledge, monitor and speaker step and upper book shelf.

I decided to go with a special walnut stain color and a semi-gloss polyurethane finish.

This design can be built in any wood and any finish. The dimensions are also variable to fit your needs.
